Peat-covered vegetated areas, near the Arctic in northern birch, coniferous forests, plateaus, wetlands, deciduous shrub forests. Post breeding near freshwater reservoirs, mud, swamps, grassy low-lying shores, sewage fields, near paddy fields, dams and lakes
