Range:
Breed in northwestern and northern Europe, from Siberia to the Chakotsky peninsula and the sea of Okhotsk. In winter, they are found on the coasts of western Europe, the Mediterranean to sub-Saharan Africa, the Indian subcontinent from the Middle East, and South-east Asia. They are also found in the Greater Sunda islands and the Philippines
Habitat:
During the breeding season, they dwell in low lying, freshwater swamps, swampy grasslands and during the non-breeding season in shallow swamps, swamps near freshwater or salt water lakes, paddy fields and waterlogged grasslands
