    Range:
    Breeding occurs in the high plateaus of Central Asia from Tajikistan to Ordos in Mongolia. These migratory birds come to the Indian subcontinent in winter and to large ground water lakes.
    Habitat:
    Seacoasts, but they also frequent ponds, rivers, lakes and marshes. They breed on both freshwater and brackish lakes and marshes with emergent vegetation. However, they may also breed on rocky headlands and higher, on shingle beaches and among rushes at lakes and rivers, in the vicinity of the sea
