    Sparsely vegetated flats of sand shingle or silt. Often in vicinity of standing or slow-flowing fresh water; sometimes saline inland pools and flats or brackish lagoons estuaries, mudflats, salt pans and salt marsh. Prefer softer mud over harder substrates
